Discover the Magic: Zoe Ranucci’s Vibrant Illustrations in “You Have a Story to Tell”

Finding my illustrator- Zoe Ranucci
When I finally had my manuscript ready for You Have a Story to Tell, I had a clear vision for the book and how I wanted the illustrations to be. I also knew what type of illustrator I wanted. I wanted to find someone who could capture a more realistic view of the children I envisioned for the book. I set out to find an illustrator who would honor all children, one who could capture a rich picture of diversity, representing children of all backgrounds, ethnicities, and abilities, both visible and invisible. It needed to reflect the beautiful diversity of the hundreds of children I’ve taught over my 30 years in education. I wanted every child to look at the illustrations and feel seen, to recognize a part of themselves in the pages.
For a couple of months, I searched online in my Facebook groups, Instagram, and Google. During that search, I came across Zoe’s work. Instantly, I connected to it and knew she was the one.
However, she seemed popular and well-known in a world much bigger than my tiny writing world. So, I was doubtful of a response when I contacted her. But to my surprise, she responded. She requested that I send the manuscript to see if it was a good fit for her. The back-and-forth emails concluded with a signed contract and a start date of November 2024.
The process with Zoe was wonderful. She created a beautiful representation of what I wanted in illustrations. She was easy to communicate with and open to my suggestions and feedback.
This book would not be what it is without Zoe. She brought it to life. The illustrations are vibrant and detailed. She did a great job creating diverse, joyful, and inclusive artwork. I wanted my words to come alive in the illustrations and for my illustrator to capture the heart of my message. Zoe accomplished that in a way that was beyond my expectations. When I look at these pages, I see every one of my students reflected within them.
Zoe is an incredible illustrator, and I am truly honored that she even replied to my initial message. What was once a dream has become a reality, brought to life through Zoe’s magical artistic talents.
